Vermiculite board is manufactured by uniformly blending high-quality vermiculite ore—expanded into worm-like vermiculite at 900°C–1000°C (a lightweight thermal insulation and fireproof material)—with inorganic additives and binders in precise proportions. The mixture is molded, pressed, low-temperature cured, and high-temperature dried to form the final board. This board offers fire resistance, thermal insulation, heat insulation, and soundproofing properties. It also possesses adequate strength, allowing for cutting, slotting, and drilling. Production methods include hot pressing and cold pressing. Hot-pressed vermiculite boards are widely adopted due to their superior characteristics: high strength, low moisture content, excellent flatness, and high density.
Cold-pressed vermiculite boards primarily rely on hydraulic or mechanical pressure for compaction. During processing, uniformly mixed raw materials are placed within a pressurized chamber, where hydraulic or mechanical force achieves the required processing pressure. Since cold pressing eliminates the need for heating, the entire process occurs at ambient temperatures. The advantages of cold-pressed vermiculite boards include low processing costs, fast production speed, ease of operation, broad applicability, and minimal requirements for equipment and environmental conditions. However, limitations exist in lower processing precision and restricted application scope.

The hot pressing process for vermiculite boards requires heat treatment, typically performed using high-temperature hot presses. First, the vermiculite board raw material is preheated to a specified temperature, then placed inside the high-temperature hot press for compression. The principle of hot pressing leverages thermal expansion and contraction: after heating the vermiculite board material to a certain temperature, it undergoes high-pressure compression to achieve greater pressure and processing effectiveness. The characteristics of vermiculite board hot pressing include high processing precision, uniform strength, and a smooth surface after processing, effectively improving product quality. However, it involves relatively high processing costs, slow processing speeds, and can easily cause surface cracking issues.
